Welcome to the official site of the Great Dane Lovers Association of WA Incorporated

The Great Dane Lovers Association of WA Incorporated (GDLAWA) was established in 2003 and welcomes all owners of, lovers of, and those interested in The Great Dane - you do not have to own a Great Dane to be a member, and you don't have to live in Western Australia!

We are a ‘pet owners’ club and whilst some members may show their dogs, we do not exclude any colours or sizes or Dane crosses from joining in for the events. Dog Showing is a great hobby to participate in and contributes to the betterment of the breed in many important ways but the GDLAWA is not a show club. Events are for fun and socialisation only. If you are interested in showing your Dane, you can still be a member but you will need to contact DogsWest in Western Australia to participate in competitive showing.

The GDLAWA is a non profit community based organisation aimed at:

  1. Educating the community about the breed
  2. Providing an opportunity for members to socialise with other members and dogs
  3. Offering assistance to those interested in becoming a Great Dane owner

If you are interested in becoming a member of the GDLAWA, please fill in the membership form on this site.

The GDLAWA committee meets a few times per year to discuss issues relating to the club. If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please contact us with your details.

In 2014 the GDLAWA initiated a “Health & Lifestyle Survey” to gather prevalence figures for many owners practices and health issues for purebred Great Danes. The final population number was 285 dogs surveyed and the data for each of a broad spectrum of lifestyle and health issues is contained in the report shown here as a pdf document which may be downloaded. You will need a browser with a pdf reader to open the survey. To save it, depending on your browser, click download, save, or save page as.
